We offer many Bible Study class options. Look through this list to find a topic or a session time that fits your interests.

New Member / Catechism Class

Pastor Poock teaches an eight-week Catechism Class open to anyone who would like to become a member of Faith Lutheran Church, as well as anyone wanting to review the Small Catechism again. Learning the catechism was never intended to be an activity limited to 7th and 8th grade! Luther wrote the catechism for all ages and declared that though he was a doctor of theology, he would always remain a student of the catechism. Let us follow his example!

Catechism class meets on Wednesdays at 6:15 pm. (Note: No classes on April 21 and 28 during Pastor’s vacation.) Please contact the Church office at 941-776-1395 to let us know if you plan to attend so we have enough materials ready for everyone.

Sunday Morning Bible Studies

This class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. in the Great Hall. Each week the Scripture readings for that Sunday will be discussed in depth and questions about them will be answered. Adults and high school age students are included in this class. A free will offering is collected to benefit pastoral students at the Concordia Seminary.

Virtual Bible Studies

Pastor Poock is currently presenting a study of the Book of Psalms via recorded YouTube videos. Each week he discusses one Psalm using Reading the Psalms with Luther as the study guide. These videos are available on the Church’s YouTube channel at the following link: Faith Lutheran Church YouTube Channel

Wednesday Bible Studies

Pastor Poock is leading a Bible Study on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 pm.  (Note: No classes on April 21 and 28 during Pastor’s vacation.) The group is currently studying the Book of Galations. The next study topic for this group will be Sovereignty and Grace.

Thursday Afternoon Bible Studies

Elder Don Lannon leads a Thursday Afternoon Bible Study in the Great Hall at 2:00 pm. This group will be studying the four Gospels and how they interact. If you are interested in joining this Bible study, feel free to come to any session. If you have any questions, Don can be contacted at lannonjr@aol.com.

Faith Lutheran Friends LifeLight Bible Study Group

Led by Elder Roy Heflin, DCE, this small group Bible study meets on the third Friday of the month at 7:00 pm. When the group began last year, it was meeting in person in the Sun City Center area at the Heflin home. But with COVID-19, the group is now gathering online using Zoom which actually makes it easier for anyone in the congregation to participate. If you are interested in joining this Bible study, contact Roy at dcemrh@mac.com. Don’t worry if you’ve never used Zoom before; it’s easy to use from a laptop, a smartphone, or an iPad device and we will help you get started.

The small group also has been gathering for social events to get to know one another even more and deepen their Christian fellowship. Cool ice cream treats were enjoyed on hot summer evenings while sitting socially distanced outside the Heflin home.
