 Divine Services with Holy Communion

Sunday

  • 8:00 am
  • 10:30 am

Wednesday

  • 5:00 pm

A Children’s Table with materials to occupy little ones during the service is available in the Narthex. Please feel free to take whatever you wish.

*For Holy Communion, our church’s teaching and practice is that people go through instruction & Catechism class with the Pastor before taking Communion. If you are a confirmed member of another LCMS church, please speak with Pastor before service begins and inform him of your intention to participate in Communion. Other visitors are invited to come up front at Communion time with everyone else to receive a prayer and blessing.

The Church has installed Hearing Loop systems in both the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall. These systems link activated hearing aids or headsets to the sound system and deliver customized sound to the listener. If you wear a hearing aid, please consult with your audiologist to determine if your device is compatible and activated for Hearing Loops, and ask them for instructions on how to use your hearing aid with the Loop. If your hearing aid is not compatible, the church has headsets that can be used.

Music

Organist

Divine Services at Faith Lutheran Church are enriched with beautiful organ music played by Bill Vlasak. Bill has been a church organist since he was 15 years old. He studied music at Capitol University and Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. While he lived in Indiana, he was an organist at the Paramount Music Palace, playing one of the largest pipe organs in the country. When it closed and the organ was relocated to Ellenton, Florida in 1999, Bill followed the organ and moved here as well. He continued to play that organ at The Roaring Twenties until it closed. The building remains and is now the Rocky Bluff Branch Library, just a few miles down from the church on US-301. Bill became the organist for Faith Lutheran Church in 2000 and has served our congregation faithfully since then.

Handbell Choir

Faith Lutheran Church sponsors a handbell choir that enriches the Divine Services with beautiful music on Christmas Eve, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday and other special occasions. The handbell choir members meet weekly in the evenings to practice ringing the handbells and also to enjoy fellowship with each other. By coming together on a regular basis, they get to make a joyful noise, and they have developed a very strongly connected group that cares about each other and looks out for one another. Participating in the handbell choir provides religious, musical, and social benefits to the members. For information about joining the choir, contact the Church office.

Lutheran Service Book

Worship at Faith Lutheran Church is formal, reverent, and distinctively Lutheran. God’s love is most clearly demonstrated when He distributes His gifts of Word and Sacrament to the body of Christ in the Divine Service.

We follow the format of the Divine Service as outlined in the Lutheran Service Book (LSB) and sing the hymns presented in the LSB. The Lutheran Service Book builds on the riches of the liturgical and hymnic heritage that we, as Lutherans, have received from past generations. It proclaims the Good News of forgiveness, life, and salvation, celebrates Christ and all His benefits, and gives voice to the people’s thanksgiving and praise.

Within the Lutheran tradition, the wedding of the Word of God to melody was modeled by the reformer himself. Martin Luther had a high regard for music and urged the Church to use it wisely as a vehicle for proclaiming the Gospel. This heritage of word and song has been highly valued throughout the history of The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod. The Lutheran Service Book offers treasured melodies and texts that have nourished God’s people for generations and delivers a rich feast of Gospel-centered hymns from every age and from many lands.

We use the Lutheran Service Book in all its fullness to give voice to the prayer, praise, and thanksgiving of God’s holy people as they are graciously served by Him through Word and Sacrament.
